Your Safe Place – San Diego Family Justice Center Hosts Annual Backpack Giveaway for Children Impacted by Violence

Your Safe Place, the San Diego Family Justice Center, part of the San Diego City Attorney’s Office, hosted its annual Backpack Giveaway last night to provide children impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault and other forms of trauma with the school supplies they need to start the academic year with confidence and care.
The event took place at the Better Business Bureau in Kearny Mesa. Nearly 200 backpacks were distributed, each filled with essential items like notebooks, pencils, crayons, folders, and notebook paper, to help children start the school year with confidence and dignity.
“Every child deserves to feel prepared and supported when they walk into school,” said City Attorney Heather Ferbert. “For families dealing with violence or trauma, something as simple as a backpack can be a powerful reminder that they’re not alone, that our City sees them, supports them, and believes in their future.”
San Diego City Attorney Heather Ferbert was joined by Mayor Todd Gloria, Council President Pro Tem Kent Lee, Councilmembers Henry Foster and Raul Campillo, as well as the team from Your Safe Place and partnering community organizations. The Backpack Giveaway is one of several ways Your Safe Place provides trauma-informed, wraparound services to survivors and their families, reaffirming the City’s ongoing commitment to recovery, dignity and support.
