You may have seen a postcard about the City’s 2025 Drinking Water Quality Report in your mailbox recently. The annual report is required by the state for water utilities to produce and provides information on the drinking water delivered to 1.3 million residents daily.

When residents scan the QR code on the postcard, they’ll be directed to the City’s 2025 Drinking Water Quality Report. In the report, they’ll find information on the origin of the City’s water supply, what it contains and how it meets health standards. The report also details the City’s water monitoring and treatment processes.

For the second year in a row, instead of printing and mailing the full 12-page Drinking Water Quality Report, the City sent postcards to all residents with information on how to view the report. Distributing the report this way saves the City more than $300,000 in printing and postage costs. Printed reports are available at all City libraries and to customers upon request.

“The annual Drinking Water Quality Report is more than a regulatory requirement,” said Public Utilities Department Interim Director Lisa Celaya. “It’s a reflection of the City’s ongoing commitment to delivering safe, reliable and high-quality water to every household and business in our service area.”

This year’s report provides an update on Pure Water San Diego, the City’s advanced water purification program that will provide San Diego with a reliable, locally controlled water supply and reduce treated wastewater discharges to the Pacific Ocean. Construction on Phase 1 of the project is nearly 90% complete. The project is expected to begin delivering purified drinking water in early 2027.

The City’s Public Utilities Department works year-round to deliver clean drinking water to its customers and will continue to invest in upgrades, pursue new technologies and engage with customers to address concerns and answer questions.
