Updated Clairemont Community Plan Signed into Law, Establishing New Long-Term Vision for the Community
The Clairemont Community Plan has been updated for the first time in more than 30 years, setting a new long-term vision for housing, mobility and neighborhood investment.
The update was marked with a signing ceremony at Clairemont Town Square, where Mayor Todd Gloria signed into law the ordinance officially updating the plan. During the event, the Mayor reflected on his personal ties to the Clairemont community and spoke about the plan’s role in supporting sustainable growth, expanding housing opportunities and creating new recreational spaces for the community.
The Mayor was joined by City Councilmember Jennifer Campbell, whose district includes Clairemont, along with a community representative. Both shared their support and enthusiasm for the updated plan. The updated plan adds capacity for 14,000 new homes in village areas near trolley stations and allows mixed-use development in Clairemont Town Square and Clairemont Community Core. The plan also supports walkable neighborhoods, focuses on new homes close to transit, and improves safety and mobility through protected intersections, expanded areas for walking and biking, and flex lanes that can safely adapt to meet different traffic needs. It also plans for additional recreational opportunities such as neighborhood parks, pocket parks and joint-use areas.
The plan update reflects priorities identified through years of extensive public engagement, including two draft plan releases, community workshops, and reviews by community planning groups, the Planning Commission and the Land Use & Housing Committee.
The Clairemont Community Plan Update follows the recent College Area update and is part of the City’s ongoing effort to modernize community plans citywide. The Mid-City Communities Plan Update is currently underway, with updates to the Rancho Bernardo and Otay Mesa–Nestor Community Plans anticipated to begin next.
