Two Months of Operation Last Call Nets Over 160 Arrests in Gaslamp Quarter

Gaslamp Quarter in the evening

Just over two months ago, the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) launched Operation Last Call, a high-visibility enforcement operation occurring in the Gaslamp Quarter on Friday and Saturday nights to curb violent and unlawful behavior.

Since Aug. 28, the operation has resulted in approximately 168 arrests, 21 of which are felony arrests, 179 citations and the recovery of four firearms. SDPD has also conducted traffic enforcement, resulting in 39 citations and 5 DUI-related arrests.

Ahead of Halloween weekend, SDPD is reminding everyone to have a safe and enjoyable time. The zero tolerance approach will be in full effect toward unlawful behavior during the busy holiday weekend.

In addition to the law enforcement presence, the City of San Diego has also repainted street and sidewalk markings, increased street sweeping to address trash and debris accumulation, and implemented designated rideshare pickup zones outside of 5th Ave. on Friday and Saturday nights to ease traffic and pedestrian congestion.

The Gaslamp Quarter is an integral part of nightlife and events in San Diego. The increasing unlawful behavior and pedestrian and vehicle congestion created a public safety challenge and affected the experience for residents and visitors alike. Since the launch of Operation Last Call and other City efforts, officers, residents and businesses have noted improvements in the area.

SDPD will continue the increased police presence for as long as necessary to keep the Gaslamp safe and enjoyable for everyone.
