Kicking off National Library Week, the San Diego Public Library (SDPL) is partnering with the San Diego Wave Fútbol Club (Wave FC) to release a limited-edition Wave-branded library card. The card was made available to fans and residents at all SDPL locations on Monday, April 20.

The collectible card offers Californians a new way to connect with the Wave FC while gaining access to the millions of books, media and digital resources available through the SDPL system. Each year, over 5 million visitors participate in over 20,000 programs and services offered by SDPL, with over 6 million items, including books, CDs, DVDs and digital resources checked out across the state.

To mark the launch, the Mira Mesa Library hosted a community storytime and autograph session with two Wave FC team members. The athletes read stories and led sing-a-longs for the nearly 100 children and families in attendance. The event was open to the public and designed to engage young readers while celebrating the start of National Library Week.

Wave FC fans and residents can obtain the limited-edition library card by signing up for a free library account online or in person, however the card must be picked up by visiting any SDPL location. Individuals who already have a library card may request a replacement Wave FC card for a $1 fee.
