San Diego Police and Fire-Rescue Respond to Plane Crash in Tierrasanta

At 3:45 a.m. this morning, the San Diego Fire-Rescue and the San Diego Police Department responded to reports of a Cessna 550 crashing into a home on the 3100 block of Salmon Road. Both agencies arrived quickly, extinguished multiple fires, assisted residents with evacuations, and later searched nearby homes for additional potential victims while addressing any remaining hazards.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, six passengers were confirmed to be on board the aircraft. Two fatalities have been confirmed and are believed to have been occupants of the plane, though the total number of deceased is still under investigation. Additionally, two individuals were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene, while six others received medical care. All eight of these individuals were not on board the aircraft.
Evacuations in the area remain in effect. As of this afternoon, Taussig Road and Yorktown Drive have reopened to the public. However, road closures will continue on Salmon Road, Santo Road, and Corporal Drive while the National Transportation Safety Board carries out its investigation.
Affected residents are encouraged to visit Hancock Elementary School (3303 Taussig Street), where the American Red Cross will continue providing lodging assistance and other support until 9 p.m.
