Secure Disposal and Recycling of Old Tax Files

If you’ve just finished filing your latest tax return and are wondering how to safely dispose of old tax files, the City of San Diego’s free Tax Files Recycling event can help with that.
Beginning today, April 15, City residents can drop off documents in secured bins at the Miramar Recycling Center at 5165 Convoy St. All documents will be securely stored and shredded before being recycled. Tax file recycling is available between the hours of 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from April 15-22 (closed Sunday, April 20). Participants are limited to one banker’s box of files per person or household. A banker’s box is approximately 10 inches high, 15 inches wide and 25 inches deep.
The City has been holding a Tax Files Recycling event since 2003, and approximately five tons of paper are collected and recycled each year. Diverting paper and other material from the landfill supports the City’s Zero Waste Plan and climate action goals.
