Get the Most Out of Comic-Con 2026 with the San Diego Public Library
As Comic-Con International returns to San Diego — the world’s premiere convention for comic books, superheroes and surprise celebrity sightings — the San Diego Public Library (SDPL) is offering a variety of activities and programs for everyone to enjoy, even without a badge.
“There is no better time to be in San Diego if you’re a cosplayer, artist or lover of comic books and superheroes,” said Library Director Misty Jones. “And there’s no better place to make the most of Comic-Con than at the San Diego Public Library, where free programming and services are available for everyone — no badge or card required.”
Beginning Thursday, July 23, SDPL will offer its limited-edition Comic-Con Commemorative Library Card at all 37 SDPL locations. This exclusive library card is the only one to be officially licensed by San Diego Comic-Con International.
Illustrated by Keithan Jones, founder and owner of KID Comics, this year’s commemorative card depicts a colorful and friendly design featuring the recognizable San Diego Central Library and emphasizes how the library is a space that welcomes everyone. All library card replacement fees have been waived for July 2026, and new library card signups are always free for California residents.
SDPL will also open its Cosplay Repair Station at the Central Library IDEA Lab on the 4th floor to fix common cosplay woes. The repair station is open Thursday, July 23, and Friday, July 24, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, July 25, from 1-5 p.m. Cosplayers with wardrobe malfunctions, from missing buttons and broken straps to last-minute costume additions, will find quick and free solutions using IDEA Lab equipment including sewing machines, 3D printers, laser cutters, hot glue guns, wig supplies and more.
In collaboration with SDPL, Comic-Con is also presenting the Comic-Con Conference for Educators and Librarians (CCEL) at the Central Library, where expert panels will explore the role of comics in promoting education and literacy for all ages. SDPL recommends using the CCEL Full Panel Schedule to plan ahead and register for panels of interest.
SDPL staff will also be at the Convention Center throughout Comic-Con at Booth 5523. Stop by to pick up the Comic-Con Commemorative Library Card, learn about library resources and programs, and receive other gifts while supplies last. The booth will also have a special appearance by Comic-Con library card designer, Keithan Jones.
