For the first time in more than 30 years, the City of San Diego is updating the Clairemont Community Plan and inviting the public to review the recently released second draft and share feedback. The second draft incorporates community input gathered following the release of the initial draft.

Community plans, along with the Citywide General Plan, provide a long-range vision and serve as the framework to guide neighborhood growth and development over the next 30 years. The Clairemont Community Plan Update will align with Blueprint SD, the City’s 2024 General Plan update, which focuses on placing new homes and jobs near transit, parks and services to meet equity, climate and housing goals and requirements.

“Community plans are critical to shaping how neighborhoods grow, how people move around the city and how they can generally enjoy public spaces,” said City Planning Director Heidi Vonblum. “We’re grateful to everyone who has provided input so far and encourage community members to review this draft and continue to share their feedback.”

The second draft of the Clairemont Community Plan Update includes:

  • Increased opportunities for new homes, businesses and community amenities in focused, mixed-use village areas along transit corridors and trolley stations.
  • Easier travel throughout the community by planning for homes, shops and public spaces to be near each other in transit-oriented village areas.
  • Improved safety and mobility with protected intersections, expanded areas for walking and biking and flex lanes that can adapt to meet different traffic needs.
  • Additional recreational opportunities such as neighborhood parks, pocket parks and joint-use areas in the community.

The public is encouraged to review the draft and provide input by Sept. 14, 2025, by visiting the Clairemont Community Plan Update webpage.

After the public comment period, the draft will be reviewed by the Clairemont Community Planning Group, followed by the Planning Commission and the City Council’s Land Use & Housing Committee, each of which will offer additional opportunities for public feedback. Final consideration by the City Council is expected by the end of the year.
